Wendy Schaeffer is an Event rider and has represented Australia for over 20 years throughout her very successful career.

At just 21 years of age, Wendy Schaeffer represented Australia at the Atlanta Olympics and gained her place in the record books as the youngest woman to have won Olympic equestrian gold.

Together with Phillip Dutton, Andrew Hoy and Gillian Rolton, she was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in November 2005 as Australia’s most successful equestrian team.

At 17, Wendy was the youngest winner ever of the Advanced Level Senior Three Day Event, Gawler 1992.  She followed with a selection for the World Championships, The Hague, Netherlands 1994, at 19 again as the youngest competitor.  She took 9th place in the Open European Championships in Italy, 1995.

She currently owns and operates with her parents Sunburst Equestrian which is an equestrian services company based at Sunning Hill, a 110 acre property just out of Hahndorf in the picturesque Adelaide Hills.
Wendy, has left her UK base at Cullinghood to return to AUSTRALIA and live at Sunburst Equestrian in the Adelaide Hills, with her husband, Nigel. They returned to Adelaide mid November, 2018, in time to be present at the Australian International 3DE at Adelaide and are now settled in at 178 Darby Road, Echunga 5153.

Wendy will be building up a new team of horses in Australia and will be available to school, re-educate and/or compete client’s horses as required.

Wendy has imported her KWPN Dutch Warmblood 1* mare by Sparticus, Gitta Bella, but is now turning her career towards a Show Jumping future.
Numerano GT Z after promising much at 1*, failed to achieve at 2* eventing and has been sold to a dressage home in UK.

Wendy has recently purchased an Australian bred Warmblood / TB cross 6 year old mare, by Pzazz, Mayfield Be Brazen, who has been campaigned up to 1m 10 show jumping this year, and plans to compete her in both Jumping & Eventing at this early stage of her career. A second 6 year old, a TB gelding by Exceed and Excell, also from a show jumping background, has joined her team and Sun Quest bears a striking resemblance to Sunburst, so high hopes are held for his success.

Wendy is also available to teach Clinics, both locally and Interstate, and lessons, as private or group sessions, at Sunburst Equestrian. Twilight Cross Country Schooling sessions are currently scheduled for January to March on Thursdays.
