Aloe Vera is an effective healer because, as a Mucopolysaccharides (MPS) which are natural, long chain sugar molecules found naturally in every cell in the human body, it penetrates the cell of the injured tissue to relieve pain. At the same time as an anti-inflammatory, it dilates the capillaries which increase the blood supply to the injured area. It contains painkilling and anti-flammatory salicylates and enzyme which inhibits Bradykin, a producer of pain in the inflamed tissue. In human studies of patients with burns and frostbite, burn patients who are treated with Aloe lost less tissue and healed faster than those treated with traditional methods and frostbite wounds exhibited less morbidity.

The anti-bacteria and anti-fungal properties of Aloe Vera Gel make it protective against a wide variety of harmful microbes. Test tube studies have shown it to inhibit the reproduction of the measles, herpes and HIV viruses.

The magnesium lactate in Aloe inhibits histamines which cause skin itching and other allergic irritations.

Properties

Aloe Vera contains a wide variety of beneficial nutrients, including protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins (such as B1, B2,B3, B6, B12, folic acid etc.) and minerals (such as calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium etc.) Aside from these essential nutrients, perhaps the most active ingredient in Aloe is its concentration of mucopolysaccharides. When taken internally, they have been proven to have immune stimulating effects. MPS’s interject themselves into the cell membranes of the body resulting in much greater cell fluidity and permeability. This allows toxins to flow out of the cells more easily and nutrients to flow in so that the overall effect on the body is a raise in energy and cell metabolism levels.

Five other major ways that MPS’s protect the body are:

  • They form a lining in the colon to keep toxic waste from reentering the body.
  • They protect each cell in the body from invasion by microbes (such as viruses) by forming a protective barrier.
  • They elevate nutrition in the gastro intestinal tract by facilitating the absorption of waters and electrolytes.
  • They lubricate the body’s joints.
  • They assist in the transfer of gasses to the lungs.

Considering the stress put on the body from nutrient foods, foreign substances such as chemicals and free radicals and infectious agents, it is essential to supplement the consumption of MPS’s as much as possible.
